Skender Čauš – The Starodoganjska Mosque

According to Turkish sources, this mosque, along with a nearby tekke, was built by Skender Čauš at the end of the 15th century. Apart from the mosque within the fortress, it was the only mosque in the town until 1582. When these endowments declined, the mosque was maintained by merchants, and that is why it became known as the Starodoganjska Mosque. During the bombing of Podgorica in World War II, in 1943, the mosque sustained only minor damage.
