📓 The promotion of the novel “Monique Escapes” (“Monik bježi”) by Édouard Louis, one of the most prominent contemporary French and European authors, will be held on Tuesday, October 13th, at 7 PM, in the DODEST Hall.

🗣 Speaking about the novel will be Varja Đukić, representing Sibila d.o.o. – Karver Bookstore (the book’s publisher), and Prof. Dr. Jasna Tatar, the translator of the novel. As part of the promotion, a video interview with the author, translated and subtitled into Montenegrin, will be screened. The conversation with Édouard Louis is conducted by one of the most significant contemporary theater directors in the region and Europe.

“Monique Escapes” is the first novel by Édouard Louis to be translated in Montenegro and the surrounding region, where his works have previously been published mostly in Croatian and Serbian.

📖 The novel brings a powerful autobiographical story about the author’s mother and her attempt to leave a violent and restrictive environment to fight for her personal freedom. Through a family story, Édouard Louis opens up questions about the female experience, family relationships, class differences, violence, and the possibilities of emancipation.

Édouard Louis (born Eddy Bellegueule, 1992) grew up in an impoverished environment in northern France. His experiences of poverty, violence, and social marginalization have become key themes in his literary work. His first novel, The End of Eddy (“Raskrstimo s Eddijem”, 2014), brought him international acclaim and has been translated into more than 20 languages. This was followed by the novels History of Violence, Who Killed My Father, Change: Method, Monique Escapes, and other works that have solidified his status as one of the most influential contemporary French writers.

Édouard Louis is an active participant in public debates and on the international cultural scene. He remains one of the most influential contemporary French authors.
