We are pleased to announce the exhibition “The State as a School”, presenting the Slovenian collective IRWIN in dialogue with their long-standing collaborators Eda Čufer, Zdenka Badovinac, Inke Arns and Mihnea Mircan.

The exhibition is conceived as a discursive space that examines the production of knowledge and historical memory beyond the dominant narratives established after 1989. It moves backwards, towards the place where the collective was formed and its key ideas—the dissolution of Yugoslavia and post-Cold War cartography—while rejecting teleological interpretations of transition.

Alongside a series of talks and lectures, the exhibition presents ready-made photographic series, documented performances and video works, while part of the project also extends into public space. Selected works occupy multiple positions: as part of an oeuvre, as an active archive and as a methodological framework. The gallery becomes the territory of the NSK State in Time, an embassy, a school and a place from which critical reflection and political imagination are produced.

The exhibition body takes shape throughout its duration, using backward movement to critically reconsider the relationships between art, politics and history, while articulating a new perspective on the present.

The exhibition space functions as a place of negotiation, research and orientation, where displaced points of view and complex geopolitical choreographies are explored—leaving the question permanently open: time for a new state?

The curator of the exhibition is Natalija Vujošević. The exhibition is realized in cooperation with the Museums and Galleries of Ljubljana, as well as the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje.
