📚 #CCE and the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Sarajevo invite you to the book promotion of historian Edin Omerčić (Institute for History at the University of Sarajevo): “The Speed of Darkness – Political Activity of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1989 to 1996.”
The book analyzes the role of the Serbian Orthodox Church during the crucial years of the Yugoslav crisis and the wars of the 1990s, focusing on the intertwining of religion, politics, and the culture of remembrance. The author examines how the reinterpretation of World War II contributed to the mythologization of the past and the alteration of social values, raising the question of whether political action led to a return to faith or its suppression in favor of political and ideological goals.
