Exhibition “CATHEDRAL OF SELF”

The exhibition of the artist Milka Delibašić “THE CATHEDRAL OF THE SELF” will be opened on Tuesday, October 15 at 8 PM in the Art Gallery.

Milka Delibašić (Nikšić, 1989) is a multimedia artist. Her creativity includes drawing, video installations, performance and other forms of art, through which she explores the complexity of emotions and social phenomena, emphasizing the personal dimension as the foundation of her artistic creativity. It also deals with questioning the nature of the medium itself, reflecting on the relationship between the performativity of the body and the performativity of the image of that body. With his work, he tries to encourage the audience to a deeper understanding and reflection on their own experiences, opening a dialogue about the emotional and psychological aspects of existence.

She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, studying Graphics, and completed her master’s studies in spatial multimedia art at the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou.

She studied at the Faculty of Contemporary Art in Pont-Aven (France), and won an EasternEurope grant to attend a course at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg (Austria).

She represented Montenegro at the prestigious Mediterranean 17 Youth Biennale in Milan in 2015, as well as at the Francophonie Games in Nice in 2013. In addition, her work has been awarded multiple times, and among the more important awards there is the “Petar Lubarda” state award for 2018.

He actively participates in numerous workshops and group exhibitions, both in Montenegro and abroad.

The artist says the following about her work:

“The Cathedral of the Self is a work of more complex construction, which integrates the media of performance, video, installation and sound. All these elements are in the service of creating an atmosphere that is a projection of mental states. The self refers to our personal identity, to everything that belongs to the space of the conscious and unconscious, and which in turn makes up our being. The cathedral of the self is characterized by the dialectic of outer and inner human space. The meaning of that name is ambiguous: it denotes the body, which is the first space in which the self resides, as well as the space itself in which states are projected (the physical space in which the performance takes place). The body appears in this work as a singularity and as a multitude. The created space is an intimate space in which the performers, in a state of passivity, dream awake. Their “dream”, projected on the wall, shows their state of mind through the movements of their bodies.”

The exhibition will last until October 31st. The curator of the exhibition is art historian Ljiljana Karadžić.
