In the very heart of the city, in a peaceful residential-commercial complex, a monument-memorial stands, a testament to both the city’s long and tragic past. Podgorica was the scene of tragic bombing during the First and Second World War, particularly during the Second World War, where many innocent citizens lost their lives. One of the many bombs found and deactivated during the construction of Podgorica’s infrastructure has become a part of the memorial dedicated to the victims of the bombing. The monument, designed by Vasilije Knežević, a well-known Podgorica architect, was unveiled on December 19, 1994, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Podgorica’s liberation. It serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences and sends a clear visual message about the enormous human and material losses.
