The likely oldest surviving medieval house is the Čubranović house, located near the Clock Tower.
It was built in 1630 and has been placed under legal protection as a significant cultural and historical object of its kind.
After the liberation of Podgorica from the Ottomans (in January 1879) it served temporarily as the seat of the first local government and municipal administration, with Duke Ilija Plamenčić and later Duke Marko Miljanov at the helm.
