Hamam/Turkish bath

The old hamam (bathhouse) was built in the Oriental style during the Ottoman period. It was designed as a two-story architectural complex with two different foundations, connected by a third floor. The dominant architectural feature was three domes combined with flat roofs. Later, it was converted into a public bath, known as “Banja”. The newspapers reported on this in 1926: “Podgorica has received a cultural treasure.” On March 16th of this year, the modern bathhouse was completed, with showers, toilets, and work began on that day. Of the three domes, only the middle one remains today. Today, the “Karver” bookstore is located on this site, which organizes literary events and manifestations.
