Screening of the film “I Captain” (Io Capitano, 2023)

The award-winning film “Io Capitano” (Io Capitano, 2023) by the Italian screenwriter and director Matteo Garone, will be shown on Tuesday, June 4, at 9 p.m., in the pavilion in Njegoševo Park. As a contemporary of the great migrations from Africa to the richer countries of Europe, the award-winning director gave the audience a title that places two young men from Senegal at the center of the action, whose only dream is to leave the African continent. Sejdu and Musa are 16-year-olds who leave Dakar and, despite the opposition of their families, decide on a risky journey that many people in their area do not speak of with optimism. In addition to all the warnings, the dangers brought by the Sahara desert, Libyan prisons and the expanse of the sea, the two become aware only during the migration. Cast: Seydou Sarr, Moustapha Fall, Issaka Sawagodo, Hichem Yacoubi, Doodou Sagna, Khady Sy, Bamar Kane, Cheick Oumar Diaw, Ibrahima Gueye… The film “I’m the Captain” premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Matteo Garone won the Silver Lion for Best Director, and Sejdu Sar was named Best Young Actor. It was also nominated for an Oscar for the best international film. The screening of the film is organized in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Podgorica, as part of the Podgorica Cultural Summer event. The film is subtitled in English, and admission is free. SECRETARIAT FOR CULTURE The award-winning film “Io Capitano” (Io Capitano, 2023) by the Italian screenwriter and director Matteo Garone, will be shown on Tuesday, June 4, at 9 p.m., in the pavilion in Njegoševo Park.
