MSUCG ORGANIZES THE PROMOTION OF THE “MONTENEGRO TODAY 2026” CATALOGUE ON FRIDAY

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro is organizing the promotion of the catalogue accompanying the second edition of the major research and exhibition project “Montenegro Today” on Friday, September 18th, at 1:00 PM in Kruševac Park.

The promotion will feature speeches by Maša Vlaović, the project coordinator; curators Natalija Đuranović, Biljana Keković, Natalija Vujošević, and Vuk Vuković; as well as Denis Ćupić, the publication’s designer. The discussion will present the concept and content of the publication, the curatorial research that accompanied this year’s edition, and the significance of its release for documenting the contemporary Montenegrin art scene.

The publication represents a permanent record of the project’s second edition, which this year, marking the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro’s independence, gathered 94 artists across four thematic sections presented at the Petrović Palace, the Perjanički Dom, the MSUCG Gallery, and the ULUCG Art Pavilion.

The catalogue includes curatorial texts that elaborate on the concepts of the exhibitions “Identity”, “Living Images”, “Dynamic Points and Invisible Lines”, and “Open Field / Artistic Practices and Ideas of Nature”, as well as the artists represented in each of the four exhibition sections. In this way, the publication serves not only as a document of the realized exhibitions but also as an important segment of a multi-year research process aimed at mapping, tracking, and presenting contemporary art production in Montenegro.

The introductory text of the publication is co-authored by Maša Vlaović and Marina Čelebić, while the coordinators of the “Montenegro Today” project are Maša Vlaović and Maja Dedić.

The “Montenegro Today” project was launched by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro in 2023 as a multi-year research and exhibition platform dedicated to mapping, documenting, and presenting the contemporary Montenegrin art scene. Through curatorial research and thematic exhibitions, the project examines various artistic practices, their connections, parallels, and specificities, including artists working in Montenegro as well as authors of Montenegrin origin living and creating abroad.

The promotion of the catalogue concludes this year’s exhibition cycle of the “Montenegro Today” project, while its research process continues through further documentation, new curatorial interpretations, and future presentations of contemporary Montenegrin art.
