As part of the October repertoire of the Montenegrin National Theatre, which marks the beginning of its 73rd season, the programme will be highlighted by the premiere of the play “Crnojevići”, written by Maja Todorović and directed by Ana Vukotić.

The premiere will take place on October 30 at 8 PM on the Main Stage, as part of the celebration of Montenegrin National Theatre Day, while repeat performances are scheduled for October 31 and November 2 at the same time.

The Montenegrin National Theatre opens its 73rd season with “Crnojevići”, a play that brings to the stage the story of the dynasty that shaped the history of the State of Zeta in the second half of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. Maja Todorović wrote the play at the invitation of the national theatre, focusing on political struggles, the destinies of rulers, and the cultural mission of the Crnojević dynasty.

However, the play does not remain solely in the past. Through the story of a dynasty that helped shape the foundations of Montenegrin statehood, it raises questions of identity, culture and heritage, as well as our relationship to what we leave to future generations. “This is a story that demands to be told now, because what is forgotten often gives rise to that which defines us most deeply,” states Ana Vukotić in her director’s note.

The cast includes Mirko Vlahović, Ana Vujošević, Luka Stanković, Anja Misović, Pavle Prelević, Momčilo Otašević and Zoran Vujović. Dramaturgy is by Željka Udovičić-Pleština, who also worked on the adaptation with Vukotić. Set design is by Vanja Magić, costumes by Leo Kulaš and Dejan Radulović, and music by Aleksandar Radunović. Stage movement and choreography are by Sonja Vukićević, video by Ivan Marušić Klif, while lighting design is by Vanja Magić and Ana Vukotić.

Repeat performances are scheduled for October 31 and November 2 at 8 PM.

“Crnojevići” thus opens the new CNP season with a story that connects historical heritage with questions that remain relevant today.
