SIDE PROGRAM
“CALL A SPADE A SPADE” (RECI BOBU BOB), a poetry-music recital celebrating the 10th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize in Literature. Damir Šodan, a Croatian poet, translator, and musician, brings Dylan out of the realm of American folk-rock and into the space of Dalmatian chanson. He features adaptations of some of Bob’s most famous songs written since the early 1960s, when an unprovoked young “provincial”—troubadour Robert Zimmerman—like a tropical tornado, first took the New York and then the global pop-rock scene by storm, forever changing the formal and contextual perception of the pop song, while also deeply influencing the work of contemporary poets worldwide. The repertoire includes some of Dylan’s classics such as Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right (Ne govori ništa u redu je), Sara, Señor, Mozambique, Forever Young (Zauvijek mlad), Every Grain of Sand (Svako zrno pijeska), Billy the Kid, and others.
Damir Šodan, adaptation, vocals, guitar, and harmonica.
