Goran Vinčić Vinča “Comedy is a serious matter”

Following “Dežurni krivac” (The Usual Suspect) and “Reci mi da se šališ” (Tell Me You’re Joking), one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians in the region arrives with completely new material about a time that is simultaneously funny and worrying, about a society that is falling apart yet laughing.

The show’s visual identity is inspired by the symbolism of the famous painting “Stańczyk” by Polish artist Jan Matejko.

It depicts a court jester, the only one aware of the gravity of political and social upheavals, sitting lost in thought while the elite’s carefree party unfolds around him. This very idea—of popular wisdom hidden within humor—becomes the foundation of Vinča’s new material.

“Comedy is a serious matter” dissects the modern world: media chaos and injustice, social absurdities, generational conflicts, and the daily dose of madness that is becoming normal to us. Vinča, acting as a modern-day Stańczyk, uses humor to open up topics that are often swept under the rug, turning them into a liberating laughter.

“Every now and then, human civilization announces the end of the world and claims it has never been worse… That’s the case this time as well.

The world has gone mad, values have been destroyed, nothing is taken seriously anymore—except comedy. Comedians are condemned for their words, demanded to take responsibility, and looked upon as either the voice of reason or the main culprit.

Comedy is almost always a distraction, except when it sincerely cares, when it hits all those problems that plague our society, and when it steps on toes because of the truth spoken—that’s when it becomes a serious matter.
