Exhibition: “Superego” by Ilija Vuković at the “ART” Gallery: April 8–30, 2026

The exhibition of academic artist Ilija Vuković titled “Superego” is open on Wednesday, April 8 at 8 PM at the Art Gallery.

The exhibition will be opened by art historian and curator Aleksandra Butorović.

In the accompanying catalogue text, Butorović notes, among other things:

“Already at first glance, it becomes very clear to the observer that the unnaturally elongated, fragile bodies with caricatural elements, instead of serving a basic decorative function, essentially reflect the result of the author’s deeply considered approach aimed at the critical analysis of contemporary global themes, moral demystification, and populist patterns of general behavior. Within the concentrated collapse of a kind of collective organism, the figure here is stripped of stable identification and gradually dissolves into a satirically shaped mass, where the boundaries of form become complex, yet systematically persist within the framework of balanced groupings. When it comes to the complexity of the drawing composition itself, where groups are arranged in the formation of a corpus civitatis, densely packed and intertwined, the aesthetic logic of the narrative space gradually takes on the properties of anthropomorphic architecture. In this way, the very space of the drawing becomes integrated into a hybrid organism, where the material/consumable loses its secondary function and reaches into the body, the subconscious, and identity.”

Ilija Vuković was born in 1992 in Mojkovac, Montenegro. He completed his undergraduate studies in sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje. During his studies, he spent part of his professional training at East Tennessee State University in the United States.
