Branislav Nušić
“Pokojnik/The Deceased”
Adaptation and direction: Egon Savin
Crnogorsko narodno pozorište in co-production with the Centre for Culture Tivat
Main Stage of CNP, April 22nd at 8 PM
“In this comedy, Nušić directly portrays the link between power and crime, as well as openly presenting police violence against civil rights and freedoms. The image of a society in which the law becomes lawlessness and theft is, in “Pokojnik/The Deceased“, stripped of Nušić’s usual cheerfulness and playfulness. In a satirical tone full of bitterness, the comic depiction of mentality is replaced here by a bleak image and a harsh resolution with no perspective. Therefore, the satirical meaning of “Pokojnik/The Deceased” is complete and very effective,” emphasized director Savin.
After its premiere on July 30 at the Centre for Culture Tivat, the play received excellent critical responses, confirming the quality of the production that audiences will enjoy and that will make them reflect on the themes it highlights.
“Pokojnik/The Deceased“shows a highly resigned phase of Nušić, when there was no longer optimism or the gentle humor present in his earlier comedies. I think this is very well visible in Egon Savin’s production, which constantly balances between tragedy and comedy and clearly reveals Nušić’s darkness in a way that is very contemporary and adapted to our time,” said theatre critic Ana Tasić.
