The U.S. Embassy to Podgorica Chargé d’affaires, Michael C. Keays will join us for an inspiring evening dedicated to the life and legacy of one of America’s most remarkable Founding Fathers – Benjamin Franklin. 📚

Franklin was not only America’s first diplomat, but also a journalist, postmaster, scientist, inventor, and visionary whose ideas helped shape the modern world. 💡 Please mark your calendars 🗓️ and meet us in American Corner on June 3rd at 17:00 hrs for a conversation about the extraordinary man whose influence continues to inspire people across borders even 250 years later.

Briefly about our esteemed speaker:

Michael C. Keays assumed his position as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro, in February 2026. A Senior Foreign Service Officer with more than 33 years at the U.S. Department of State, he has served in senior diplomatic and policy roles focused on Eastern Europe, Russia-Ukraine issues, cyberspace policy, and Afghanistan.
His overseas assignments include postings in Suriname, Russia, Israel, Poland, Jamaica, Afghanistan, and Montenegro, including service as Deputy Chief of Mission in Suriname and Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok. 🌍
Mr. Keays has also trained and mentored more than 750 Foreign Service Officers at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute and holds a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College. 🎓
He joined the Foreign Service in 1992 and received language training in Russian, Polish, and Pashto. Mr. Keays is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and he and his wife Andrea, a former Jamaican diplomat, have two grown children.
