What do our bodies remember when history falls silent?
🎬 Slet 1988 (Youth Relay 1988) | Marta Popivoda
In the film “Slet 1988”, ballerina Sonja Vukićević (74) moves through the utopian architecture of socialist modernism – her body becoming an archive of the last mass performance in Yugoslavia. Her movements echo the rhythms of the past and the reality of the present, intertwining with the diary of a teenage girl from 1988 and revealing the transition from socialist collectivism to growing individualism, while simultaneously shaping a new national collective body that would soon define the country’s future.
The film’s author, Marta Popivoda, is a filmmaker, artist, and researcher whose work explores the relationships between memory, history, and ideology. Her films and artworks have been showcased at the world’s most prominent festivals and institutions, including the Berlinale, MoMA, and Tate Modern.
