At just 16 years old, Soraya is already creating stunning drawings and sculptures that are both beautiful and dark. This determined Afghan sculptor and illustrator spent five years trying to find a way out of Iran to join her mother in Austria. A subtly layered self-portrait intertwines poignant scenes of her escape attempts, political news, and footage of her dancing, while also revealing her bruises. Married to an abusive man, she is resolved not to endure it. The film was directed entirely remotely, with Soraya filming all the material herself on her phone over a five-year period.
