A living legend of British contemporary music, composer Gavin Bryars, will perform an evening of his music with his sextet at the Music Center of Montenegro (MCCG) on Monday, May 18, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM.
Bryars’ life and career have been part of three of the most important musical revolutions of the second half of the 20th century: Cage’s avant-garde, American minimalism, and British experimental music.
From this turbulent historical constellation, Bryars emerged creating a fourth, entirely unique stylistic formation. Some call it new tonality, others soft contemplativeness, some post-minimalist mimicry, and others music of space. One thing is certain: Bryars’ compositional voice is one of the most authentic and influential phenomena in the music of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
We are therefore thrilled to share that on the stage of the Music Center of Montenegro, Bryars’ sextet, together with Gavin Bryars himself, and with the support of SUDDENSTUDENTS, an ensemble of students from the Cetinje Music Academy, will perform some of his iconic works at the official closing of the Music in Me Festival, organized by the Music Academy of the University of Montenegro in collaboration with the British Council and the Music Center of Montenegro.
